The Science in Fairytales

Jr. STEM

Grades K – 1st

Does your student love all things STEM? Are they curious about the world around them and love learning new things? Jr STEM is a class that explores a wide variety of STEM concepts from planets to dinosaurs to robots and so much more. This hands-on class will get your students thinking critically, solving problems, and creating new ideas as they explore STEM in a supportive and fun environment.

Little Engineers

Grades K – 1st

Even our youngest students can be engineers. In this exciting new class Little Engineers will learn the process of using creativity and an understanding of materials, tools, mathematics, and science to design things that solve problems. We will Unlock their creativity by introducing age-appropriate engineering and computer science challenges that develop cognitive, social, motor, and language skills.

Food Science

Grades 2nd – 3rd

Tuesdays 4:30-5:30

Why do some foods change color when they are cooked? What causes popcorn kernels to puff up into popcorn? These are just a few things we will be exploring in this introductory food science class. We will experiment with using different ingredients in recipes and learning critical beginning cooking skills such as measuring and cutting. STEM never tasted so good!

Forces and Motion

Grades 2nd – 3rd

Wednesdays 5:45-6:45

Join us for some Hands-on Physics fun! Students will have a blast exploring physics concepts like forces and motion (push and pull), gravity, and friction. We will race cars down friction ramps and discover how friction and weight affect the results. We will design and test catapults, create air powered cars, and even launch some rockets!

LEGO Robots JR

Geo Science

Water is a precious commodity, especially in the desert. Using hands-on activities and active learning, we will explore how water moves through our environment and how humans manage it.

In this class students will learn how to modify their worlds in Minecraft! Using software called MCreator students will use their creativity to create their own armor, food, weapons, and many more items in Minecraft Java edition.

Amateur Radio

Grades 6th – 9th

Tuesdays 4:30-5:30

Learn how to communicate in retro fashion! Amateur radio has been around for more than a century and enables hundreds of thousands of people in countries all over the world to communicate using minimal infrastructure. Learn how to set up a station of your own, find the fox, build antennas, and take your amateur license test.

Web Design

In this fun hands-on class, students will learn how to build webpages from scratch and launch their own websites online. The core building blocks of HTML, CSS, and Javascript will be used to develop structure, layout, content, and interactivity on their web pages.

Artificial intelligence is exploding into all STEM fields. This class will explore the computer science behind large language models through the creation of your very own Chat Bot using Python and ChatGPT. Introductory coding experience with Python is required.

Flight Simulator

Grades 8th – 12th

Fridays 3:30-5:00

Come and learn about the science of flight and how to become a pilot from members of the St. George Civil Air Patrol. Then put your knowledge to the test on a real flight simulator. This program uses Lockheed Martin’s Prepar3D flight simulator and TakeFlight instruction software. If you are looking to get a jump start towards a career in flight, this is a great place to start.

Computer-Aided Design

Grades 9th – 12th

Thursdays 4:30-5:30

Taught by UT Professor Divya Singh

Visualize, Design and Build your prototype!! In this course of Design and prototyping, students will be introduced to the processes employed by inventors and engineering designers. They will explore the process of envisioning, creating, and rapidly prototype by using 3D printers and laser cutting. The course creates a real exploration into the Engineering Design Process that includes – problem identification, empathy (to the consumer in terms of the design need), brainstorming solutions, synthesis, rapid prototyping (and testing). Students will collaborate in teams to develop and showcase their inventive ideas.

Red Rock Math Circle

Grades 6th – 8th

Red Rock Math Circle at Utah Tech University is a program providing opportunities for students to enjoy math outside their school curriculum. Students will be guided by Math department faculty in various math related activities, working with problem solving strategies and participating in math contests.

4-H Entrepreneurs

Grades 6th – 12th

Wednesdays 4:30 – 5:30

We are excited to introduce the new 4-H Career Readiness program, 4-H Entrepreneurs. The 4-H Entrepreneur program teaches youth how to start their own business to sell products or services. Youth who attend the 4-H Entrepreneur trainings can host a booth for their business at a local venue, where they will sell their products/services directly to the public. Youth participants will learn-by-doing in this program –they create real businesses, and can make real sales!
